What Paul reveals in this chapter is nothing short of astounding: the inner-workings of love, as designed by God. In doing so he reveals the inner-workings of God:

For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known. 1 Corinthians 13:12

It has to be one of the most famous and poetic sections in the Bible:

“And now, I will show you a most excellent way…Without love I am nothing.”

But it’s more than poetry. Paul demonstrates the practical outcome of all he’s been building until now. We have many different gifts and activities (or ministries), but the effects are to be seen in chapter 13.

Love is the apex of human existence, and it is, in fact, the essence of maturity:

When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things. 1 Corinthians 13:11
